Cavachons 101

Crossbred group

As the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel has eclipsed the American Cocker Spaniel in popularity, it’s no real surprise that Cavalier crosses have risen in popularity. The Cavachon, a cross between a Bichon Frise and a Cavalier, is an intelligent, playful and loving companion.

Blend of two sweet, family-oriented breeds

As with the similar Cavapoo (Cavalier crossed with Poodle), the Cavachon coat may vary in texture and color and is easier to keep neat if kept clipped short. As with other similar mixes, the Cavachon may be more easily tolerated by people with allergies.

Nationwide Outline

Did you know?

As with other blends of small, family-friendly dogs, the Cavachon has found a home in the hearts of man.

Cavachon coat care and colors

As with other crosses of breeds with different coat types, there's no certainty about what kind of coat you'll get. Keeping the Cavachon clipped will make things easier for all.

How often should I bathe my Cavachon?

Cavachons can be bathed monthly, weekly or as needed (if they roll in mud, for example!). Use a pet-specific shampoo and conditioner or an all-in-one product. If your dog’s coat or skin isn’t looking healthy, check with your veterinary healthcare team to see what might be causing the problem.

Are Cavachons okay in cold weather?

Your Cavachon should be just fine with regular outings outdoors. As with any dog, though, they may appreciate a coat, sweater or a heated bed in their senior years, especially if their coat is clipped short.

How often should I groom my Cavachon?

Weekly combing and brushing down to the skin along with baths as needed will keep your Cavachon's coat free of mats and debris. Many Cavachons see professional groomers and are kept clipped short for ease of care. Trim or grind nails on a weekly basis.

Cavachon exercise & training

Loves walks

Exercise level

The Cavachon doesn't need a huge amount of exercise, but they're always up for a walk or indoor fun and games.

Class star

Trainability

Both the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and Bichon Frise are breeds who love to please and learn easily. Use positive reinforcement training and teach some tricks, too!
